Ezra 1-3; Nehemiah 8-9

In Ezra, what was the significance of counting all the people/groups and items that were being brought into the house? Was it just like a census like we have to count how many people liver in our houses? Or does it have to do with something about how many people are worshipping God in one house?

Also there was a statement that was mentioned about if you worshipped other Gods, you could still come to this house. I thought you could only worship one God?

In Nehemiah, there was descriptors of everything that God has done and some punishments of what God has given. Is this just to remind people that by doing good things God will reward you, but if not he will punish you?
