First Post- Pages 51-67 INTRO

Why would the Lord exhort Cain to have enough jealousy to kill his brother Abel? But then turn around and mark him so that no one else would hurt him when you would think he would be punished? Why is the Lord protecting Cain, but he didn't protect Abel?
